AAA of Southern California Funny Car pilot Robert Hight is the provisional leader on Friday night in his class. The Yorba Linda, California native went 3.858 at 344.65 mph to claim the first day of the Toyota NHRA Sonoma Nationals in Sonoma, California.
In 2017, Hight set the track record at this facility. Also, last year, he won the event.
“You know you’re always in for a treat when you come to Sonoma Raceway because of the great atmospheric conditions,” said Hight. “We can always throw down here with the great conditions. This place holds the speed record for a reason. Jimmy Prock and Chris Cunningham did a great job and if this holds up it’ll be the eighth No. 1 qualifier of the season, so we really love these good conditions.”
Global Electronic Technology Funny Car pilot Shawn Langdon is the provisional No. 2 qualifier. The Danville, Indiana native went 3.875 at 329.99 mph.
Infinite Hero Foundation Funny Car pilot Jack Beckman is the provisional No. 3 qualifier. The Norco, California native went 3.879 at 333.41 mph.
