Gill takes TAFC No. 1 qualifier at 2019 Atco Divisional

ATCO, NJ — Matt Gill is the No. 1 qualifier after qualifying on Friday during the NHRA Divisional at Atco Dragway in Atco, New Jersey. The Massachusetts native went 5.499 at 270.00 mph.

As a result of his No. 1 in qualifying, he will receive a bye in the first-round of eliminations that will be held on Saturday night at the track.

“It was a bunch of consistent runs,” Gill said. “They were in the low 50’s, high 40’s — and a lot of hard work went into this.”

DJ Cox was the No. 2 qualifier with a 5.567 at 263.62 mph pass. He will face John Headley in the first-round of eliminations.

The Newportvile, Pennsylvania native went 15.906 at 50.59 mph.

Frederick Tigges is the No. 3 qualifier. The Holbrook, Massachusetts native went 5.700 at 156.16 mph.

He will face Joshua Haskett in the first-round of eliminations. The North Wilkesboro, North Carolina had problems in the first two sessions before a 8.626 at 106.92 mph pass in session three.

New Jersey native Dan Pomponio is the No. 4 qualifier. He went 5.710 at 260.76 mph.

He will face Aryan Rochon in the first-round of eliminations. The Dade City, Florida native went 5.716 at 256.94 mph.

Eliminations are expected to take place today at 3:30 pm, 5:30 pm, and 7:30 pm.

“They’re all tough competitors out here,” Gill said. “We’re trying to stay in the points lead. We’re hoping to take the win [Saturday] and extend the points lead.”
