The Miami Dolphins have signed free agent Robert Nkemdiche on Friday. Upon signing with the Dolphins, he was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list.
He was previously released by the Arizona Cardinals on July 27th. He was their first-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.
When he was with the Cardinals, first-year Head Coach Kliff Kingsbury said he wasn’t in shape to play. Arizona released him before he was due a $400,000 bonus for being on the training camp roster on the fifth day of camp.
“That’s where we’ll leave it,” Kingsbury said. “I mean, he’s on (the Physically Unable to Perform list) and he’s working through that. When he is cleared, we’ll work with him.”
As a player, he played in just 27 games over three seasons. He was hampered by injuries during his tenure with the team.
Besides battling injuries to miss time, Nkemdiche has had run-ins with the law. This past June, he has two separate run-ins with the authorities.
The Cardinals declined his $8.6 million option for the 2020 season this past May.
