Motocross racer Jonathan Mayzak has died

AMA Pro Motocross racer Jonathan Mayzak has died. He was 20. 

Mayzak died on Sunday after succumbing to his injuries. He was injured on Friday night before the start of the Unadilla National in New Berlin, New York.

The Murrells Inlet, South Carolina native was hit by a vehicle when he was crossing the road in front of the paddock for the race on Route 8, according to the MX Sports Pro Racing press release. A 31-year-old man was arrested following the incident for driving while drug-impaired and vehicular assault. 

New charges are expected to be added following Mayzak’s death. 

He was going to marry his fiancé Kenzie Hebbelman in October, according to the press release. The couple were planning to go on a cruise for their honeymoon.

Mayzak is survived by his parents and siblings. Mayzak will donate his organs to others in need in the future. 

No service has been scheduled at this time. 

He started competed at the AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship at Loretta Lynn’s in 2006. A decade later, he received his pro motocross license. 

This season, he competed in four Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship events.
