Funny Cars return to Brainerd International Raceway this weekend. The Zoo is race No. 17 of the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series schedule.
The event will take place from Thursday, August 15th through Sunday, August 18th. The event is 1,200 feet above sea level.
Jack Beckman will look to repeat as the winner in the Funny Car category. He defeated his Don Schumacher Racing teammate, Tommy Johnson Jr. in the final round at the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals last year.
Beckman went 3.961 at 325.69 mph to win the Wally. Johnson Jr. went 4.031 at 319.67 mph in the losing effort.
Beckman and Johnson Jr. are both going to be competing this weekend at The Zoo. Don Schumacher Racing fellow pilots Ron Capps and Matt Hagan will also be competing at this event.
Kalitta Motorsports pilot J.R. Todd and his teammate Shawn Langdon will on the property. John Force Racing pilot Robert Hight and John Force will be also there at this event.
This will be the first NHRA event since Force won his 150th win in his career at the Magic Dry Organic Absorbent NHRA Northwest Nationals at Pacific Raceways on August 4th.
Full-time Levi, Ray, and Shoup Inc. pilot Tim Wilkerson will be there. In addition, Snap-On Funny Car pilot Cruz Pedregon will also be competing this weekend.
Ford Motocraft/Quick Lane pilot Bob Tasca III will be competing at The Zoo one race after making his first 330 mph pass near Seattle, Washington two weekends ago. Jim Dunn Racing pilot Jim Campbell will also be competing this weekend.
There will be 17 Funny Cars on the property at this event. Only 16 will make the show, which means that one will go home following qualifying on Saturday.
Other Funny Cars on the property include Paul Lee, Terry Haddock, Dale Creasy Jr., Bob Bode Jr., and Jonnie Lindberg.
Living legend Force has won this event 11 times. However, he hasn’t won there since 2007.
Besides the 2007 win, he also won in 2002, 2000, 1999, 1997, 1996, 1995, 1994, 1991, 1990, 1988.
