Force takes 2019 Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals Top Fuel No. 1 qualifier

Carquest Top Fuel Dragster pilot Brittany Force is the No. 1 qualifier on Saturday night at the 38th annual Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals. Force went 3.722 at 328.14 mph during her final qualifying pass to claim the top spot at Brainerd International Raceway in Brainerd, Minnesota. 

This is her fifth No. 1 qualifier of her season. In addition, this is her 15th No. 1 qualifier of her career.

“That was a clean run all the way down and that put us No. 1,” said Force. “Grubby [David Grubnic, crew chief] said we were going to push to see if we could move up and we did. He told me a number that he wanted to see. He [Grubnic] is awesome. I love working with him and [assistant crew chief Mac Savage. He’s been behind the wheel before, so he understands the stress and pressure that goes with it. After a run I can come back and have a conversation with him and he understands it.

“It’s no secret that we’ve been struggling the last few weeks and this puts us in the best spot we could be in going into race day.”

The Yorba Linda, California native will face “The Greek” Chris Karamesines in the first-round of eliminations. The Chicago, Illinois native went 4.270 at 204.79 mph. 

Capco Contractors Top Fuel Dragster pilot Steve Torrence is the No. 2 qualifier. The Kilgore, Texas native went 3.738 at 328.70 mph.

Torrence will face Cameron Ferré in the first-round of eliminations. The Huntington Beach, California native went 4.115 at 261.22 mph. 

Scrappers Racing Top Fuel pilot Mike Salinas is the No. 3 qualifier. The San Jose, California native went 3.743 at 329.58 mph.

Salinas will face Luigi Novelli in the first-round of eliminations. The Crete, Illinois native went 3.989 at 292.65 mph.

Mopar sponsored Top Fuel Dragster pilot Leah Pritchett is the No. 4 qualifier. The Avon, Indiana native went 3.756 at 325.53 mph.

She will face Kyle Wurtzel in the first-round of eliminations. The Warsaw, Indiana native went 3.962 at 167.75 mph.

Capco Contractors Top Fuel Dragster pilot Billy Torrence is the No. 5 qualifier. The Kilgore, Texas native – who is looking to repeat as the event winner – went 3.763 at 325.53 mph.

He will face Antron Brown in the first-round of eliminations. The Pittsboro, Indiana native went 3.849 at 322.58 mph.

6. Clay Millican, 3.765, 318.77 mph vs. 11. Richie Crampton, 3.809, 316.75 mph

7. Doug Kalitta, 3.768, 325.92 mph vs. 10. Terry McMillen, 3.794, 323.66 mph

8. Austin Prock, 3.769, 323.35 mph vs. 9. Scott Palmer, 3.771, 316.60 mph

17. Terry Totten, 4.366, 189.12 mph

18. Todd Paton, 5.284, 132.70 mph
