Besides being the High Speed Motorsports Owner, he was also the tuner for the team. He also owned CAD/Cam Consulting Services Inc. in California.
“It is with profound sorrow that we must report that High Speed Motorsports Owner/Tuner Tom Shelar passed away in his sleep last night,” All American Fuel Dragsters said in a Facebook post. “More details will be posted as they come in, but suffice it to say that Tom was a friend, proponent, and benefactor to the sport and a huge part of the Nostalgia Top Fuel’s growth and success. Moreover, he was a giving human being with insatiable zeal for life. And he loved to burn nitro. We are AAFD are stunned and filled with sorrow. Godspeed, Tom Shelar.”
At one time, Top Alcohol Funny Car pilot Sean Bellemeur was employed by Shelar to drive his Nostalgia Top Fuel Dragster. He then became a crew member for the High Speed Motorsports team when he wasn’t driving his family’s Top Alcohol Funny Car.
After Bellemeur, Troy Green, Brad Thompson, and Bill Dunlap were the drivers. Mendy Fry became the team’s driver in 2017.
Bellemeur became Bartone’s full-time driver in 2018. He won the championship in his first full season with the team – and he is in contention once again.
At Cad-Cam, there are 13 employees. Bellemeur and his wife Ashley are two of the employees.
The website also says the team won the NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Racing Series Top Fuel Champion in 2018.
