Castellana defeats Smith to win 2019 US Nationals in Pro Mod

Mike Castellana has won the 2019 Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals in Pro Mod. He defeated Rickie Smith in the final round on Monday night at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis in Brownsburg, Indiana. 

Castellana went 5.758 at 248.43 mph for the win. Smith went 5.747 at 250.83 mph in the losing effort.

Castellana had the better reaction time, as he was 0.014 better than Smith. The Muttontown, New York native had an 0.049 reaction time compared to the King, North Carolina native’s 0.063. 

With the starting line advantage, Castellana was able to stay out front of Smith — who was the No. 1 qualifier for the class at this event — as he received the hole shot win. Castellana won by 0.0038 seconds. He won by approx. 17 inches. 

With this win, Castellana now has two wins on the season. This is his ninth career win.
