The first game of the season was a defensive battle with sloppy offense. Both offenses barely played in the preseason.
In addition, this marks the first game of the 100th season for the NFL.
Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers went 18 of 30 for 203 yards. He also threw one touchdown.
Aaron Jones had 13 carries for 39 yards.
Marquez Valdes-Scantling had four receptions for 52 yards. Davante Adams had four receptions for 36 yards. Jimmy Graham had three receptions for 30 yards and a touchdown.
Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky went 26 of 45 for 228 yards. He also had an interception.
“We wanted to make Mitch play quarterback,” Packers cornerback Tramon Williams said of the team’s game plan. “We knew that they had a lot of weapons, we knew they were dangerous… But we knew if we could make Mitch play quarterback, that we’d have a chance.”
Mike Davis had five carries for 19 yards. David Montgomery had five carries for 18 yards.
Allen Robinson had seven receptions for 102 yards. Tarik Cohen had eight receptions for 49 yards.
Graham caught an eight-yard touchdown reception from Rodgers in the second quarter. Mason Crosby also made a 39-yard field goal in the fourth quarter.
Eddy Piñeiro made a 38-yard field goal in the first quarter.
“Three points is ridiculous,” coach Matt Nagy said. “Any Chicago Bears fan … should be upset.”
Traditionally, the Super Bowl winner will begin the season in the Thursday night showcase. However, they decided to go with a historic battle to begin the season.
