The NHRA Countdown to the Championship will begin this weekend at Maple Grove Raceway in Mohnton, Pennsylvania. We will be on hand providing coverage of the event.
This is event No. 19 of the season. The Mopar Express Lane NHRA Nationals presented by Pennzoil will kick off the six-race Countdown to the Championship.
Pro Stock Motorcycle return to The Grove, beginning on Friday, Sept. 13th through Sunday, Sept. 15th.
Hector Arana Jr. will look to repeat at this year’s event. He defeated Matt Smith last year in the Pro Stock Motorcycle final round.
The East Northport, New York native went 6.842 at 197.74 mph to win the Wally. The King, North Carolina native went 7.306 at 145.88 mph in the losing effort.
Both PSM riders will be back to try to have the same success as last year. Matt Smith Racing teammates Angie Smith, Scotty Pollacheck, and Michael Ray Jr. will also be on the property. Kelly Clontz, who has been receiving assistance from Matt Smith, will also be on the property.
Arana Jr. will also have his Lucas Oil teammate and father Hector Arana on the property as well.
Screamin’ Eagle Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson riders Eddie Krawiec, Andrew Hines, and Angelle Sampey will be competing at this event. White Alligator Racing teammates Jerry Savoie — who is coming off of an emotional Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals win — and Karen Stoffer will be on the property.
Reed Motorsports rider Cory Reed will be competing this weekend. Other Pro Stock Motorcycle riders on the property include Marc Ingwersen, Steve Johnson, Ronald Tornow, Ryan Oehler, and Jianna Salinas.
There are 18 Pro Stock Motorcycles on the property. Two will be sent home following Saturday’s qualifying, as only 16 will make the show on Sunday.
Sampey is the active rider with the most wins at this facility. She has won six times, including 1996, 1998, 2001, 2002, 2004, and 2005.
