For the second straight national event, it was the same two Top Alcohol Dragster teams facing each other in the final round. Megan Meyer was able to defeat Troy Coughlin Jr. to win the prestigious Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals at Lucas Oil Raceway in Brownsburg, Indiana.
Coughlin Jr. was able to get the win at Maple Grove Raceway in Mohnton, Pennsylvania on Sunday over Meyer. It is the first-time that he has defeated her in the Top Alcohol Dragster class.
The Delaware, Ohio went 5.211 at 279.96 mph in the McPhillips Racing team dragster to win the Wally. The Spring Hill, Kansas native went 5.261 at 273.61 mph in the losing effort in her Randy Meyer Racing dragster.
This is the second straight year that the McPhillips Racing team has won this event in Top Alcohol Dragster. The Phoenixville, Pennsylvania team defeated Josh Hart in the final round in 2018.
Before this final round, Meyer had a 5-0 record against Coughlin Jr. She also had a 3-0 advantage over him in prior final rounds.
Meyer had the starting line advantage, but Coughlin Jr. was able to close the gap at the finish line. He won by 0.0115 seconds, or approx. 5 feet.
This is Coughlin Jr.’s second national event win on the season, as he previously won at Norwalk in June in Ohio. This is also his third Top Alcohol Dragster national event win.
He also previously defeated Hart during the Atco Divisional in August, which was his first Divisional win of the season.
