Katy Collins, former MMA fighter, has died

Former MMA fighter Katy Collins has died. She was 32.

Collins died days after suffering a brain aneurysm. She suffered the brain aneurysm on Friday, Sept. 20th.

According to MMA Junkie, the brain aneurysm caused Collins to also suffer a stroke and seizures.

“The fight is over,” JT Tilley said. “You never stopped fighting and we never gave up on you. Just wasn’t in the cards.…I’ve always been so proud of you Kate. We did it. I was honored to be able to live your dream with you. I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I will miss you more than the world will ever know.”

She last competed in the octagon at Legacy Fighting Alliance (LFA). She was lost to Jaimelene Nievera in a unanimous decision in the ninth bout on the card at the Branson Convention Center in Branson, Missouri.

The Marked Tree, Arkansas native was 7-5 in her MMA career. She won four bouts by knockout with two wins by submission and a win by decision.

Three of her five losses were by decision. She also lost two bouts by submission.

“The Red Dragon,” as she was known, had her last win come in Bellator MMA. She defeated Bruna Vargas at Bellator 181 by a unanimous decision on July 14, 2017.

This was her lone win in the final four bouts. She went 2-1 in Bellator.

Collins also fought in Xtreme Fight League in Oklahoma, Resurrection Fighting Alliance, Fight Hard MMA, Capital City Punishment, and ExciteFight.
