A drag racer has died at the Coffeyville Street Drags. According to social media accounts, he has been identified as Joe Hunt.
He wrecked the vehicle he was driving and succumbed to his injuries.
The Coffeyville Street Drags were taking place at an Industrial Park in Coffeyville, Kansas. According to their website, racing began at 10 am local time.
The drivers at this event were competing at a 1/8th mile track on a street in the industrial park.
According to its website, “Coffeyville Street Drags is a group of three local men who came together to bring activities and tax revenue to their community. We are now getting ready to finish up our 2nd year of events and looking forward to what 2018 has in store. It is the only legal, insured, organized, and promoted street race within a three-hour radius of Coffeyville, KS.
“Since our first event, several well-known and large organizations such as Speed Society, Bangshift.com, and members of the show Street Outlaws have shared and written about our event via social media.”
Hunt has driven a 2000 Pontiac Firehawk in the past. He had a Facebook page called The Blackhawk with more than 6,000 fans.
