The Rutgers Scarlet Knights have fired head football coach Chris Ash. The school also announced that offensive coordinator John McNulty was also fired.
The team will be led by Nunzio Campanile for the rest of the season. He was previously the team’s tight ends coach before being named interim head coach.
“We appreciate Chris’s dedicated efforts on behalf of our football program, our department, and our University,” said Hobbs. “This change is especially difficult because of the steadfast commitment that Chris and his family have made to our student-athletes. Progress has been achieved in many areas, but, unfortunately, that progress has not been realized on the field of play.
“As such, it is in the best interest of the program to make a change.”

The school said the contracts of Ash and McNulty will have their contracts honored by the school. A national search will begin to find a replacement for the 2020 season.
Ash’s final game with the team came in a 52-0 loss on Saturday against No. 19 Michigan Wolverines. The team is presently on a three-game losing streak, as they were outscored 112-16 in the losses to Iowa, Boston College, and the aforementioned Michigan.
Their lone win of the 2019 season came in a 48-21 over the Massachusetts Minutemen on Friday, August 30th.

As the Scarlet Knights head coach, he went 8-32. He also has a 3-26 record in the Big Ten Conference, where he went 0-11 in the past two seasons.
His best record at the school was a 4-8 mark in 2017. He had a 2-10 record in 2016 and a 1-11 record in 2018.
