The Rutgers Scarlet Knights are in the search for a new head football coach for the 2020 season. The team fired former full-time head coach Chris Ash on Sunday.
The football team went 1-3 this season under Ash. In his three-plus-year tenure, he was 8-31 at the school.

According to a report, the administration at the school is expected to consider Butch Jones for the vacancy. Jones is presently an Offensive Analyst for the Alabama Crimson Tide, where he has been employed since the 2018 season.
Unlike Greg Schiano, who has ties to the school and New Jersey, Jones only previously coached at the school. He is from Saugatuck, Michigan and attended Ferris State University.
Before accepting a position with the Crimson Tide, he was the Tennessee Volunteers head coach from 2013 through 2017. He also was the Cincinnati Bearcats head coach from 2010 through 2012.
Jones also was the Central Michigan Chippewas head coach from 2007 through 2009. As a college football head coach, he is 84-52, including 4-2 in Bowl games.
His teams also won two MAC Championships in 2007 and 2009. In addition, the team also won two Big East Championships in 2011 and 2012.
He also was the West Virginia Mountaineers wide receivers in 2005 and 2006. From 1998 through 2004, he served multiple positions with the Chippewas staff.
Jones also worked on the Bulldogs staff at his alma mater from 1995 through 1997.
He served as the Wilkes University Colonels offensive coordinator in 1993 and 1994. Jones was a graduate assistant at Rutgers from 1990 through 1992.
He also was an intern with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from 1987 through 1989.
