“My dad started drag racing 40 years ago,” Meyer said after winning the championship and the double-up. “My sister [Rachel] and I grew up watching him race. I knew from day one that this was what I wanted to do. I don’t care about Top Fuel, all I care about is Top Alcohol Dragster. Me and TJ are a bunch of bracket guys racing against each other. We’ve even shared the same car.
“It’s crazy for us to be able to go all the way through the ranks to be at the very top of the Sportsman ranks in Top Alcohol Dragster. We haven’t won the World Championship since 2003. This means so much to us.”
Before this final-round appearance, Meyer held a 5-1 advantage over Coughlin Jr. in prior events. She previously held a 3-1 advantage over Coughlin Jr. in the final rounds.
Coughlin Jr.’s lone win over Meyer came at the Mopar Express Lane NHRA Nationals presented by Pennzoil at Maple Grove Raceway in Mohnton, Pennsylvania, in September.
Meyer had the advantage at the starting line. She had a 0.041 reaction time, while Coughlin Jr. went 0.054 off the line.
This was a great side-by-side race. Meyer, however, never trailed as she captured the win. She won by 0.0337 seconds, or approximately 14 feet.

This is Meyer’s fourth win of the season. She now has two wins at this event — and it is her ninth win of her career.
Meyer is the first Top Alcohol Dragster pilot not named Joey Severance to win since 2014 when Chris Demke won. Severance won the championships in 2015, 2016, 2017, and 2018.
