Smith sets ET and MPH record at 2019 Dodge NHRA Nationals

Reigning Pro Stock Motorcycle champion Matt Smith has swept the No. 1 qualifiers of the 2019 Las Vegas NHRA races. The King, North Carolina also was the No. 1 qualifier at the Spring Four-wide race in April.

Smith went 6.840 at 196.93 mph on Saturday at the Dodge NHRA Nationals presented by Pennzoil at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Las Vegas, Nevada. The Denso Pro Stock Motorcycle rider performed better than his track record on Friday with his 6.840 pass.

“We’ve got a lot of confidence going into {Sunday],” said Smith. “All in all, I’ve think we’ve got a pretty fast hotrod for tomorrow. This motorcycle is running pretty mean right now. After the helmet goes on, it’s all serious and it’s all business, and we’re having a good time.”

Smith will face Katie Sullivan in the first-round of eliminations. The Orland, California native went 7.049 at 191.78 mph.

Steve Johnson Racing Pro Stock Motorcycle rider Steve Johnson is the No. 2 qualifier. The Birmingham, Alabama native went 6.848 at 194.18 mph.

Johnson will face Ron Tornow in the first-round of eliminations. The Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native went 7.048 at 182.92 mph.

Screamin’ Eagle Vance & Hines Harley Davidson Pro Stock Motorcycle rider Eddie Krawiec is the No. 3 qualifier. The Danville, Indiana native went 6.864 at 195.11 mph.

Krawiec will face Kelly Clontz in the first-round of eliminations. The Hughesville, Maryland native went 6.991 at 190.86 mph.

Screamin’ Eagle Vance & Hines Harley Davidson Pro Stock Motorcycle rider Andrew Hines is the No. 4 qualifier. The Brownsburg, Indiana native went 6.866 at 194.63 mph.

Hines will face Melissa Surber in the first-round of eliminations. The Fortuna, California native went 6.947 at 190.35 mph.

White Alligator Racing Pro Stock Motorcycle rider Jerry Savoie is the No. 5 qualifier. The Cut Off, Louisiana native went 6.870 at 193.93 mph.

Savoie will face Ryan Oehler in the first-round of eliminations. The Bloomington, Illinois native went 6.942 at 194.55 mph.
