Steve “Stevie Fast” Jackson already clinched the Pro Mod Championship. The Bahrain 1 driver ended his season on a high note.
Jackson defeated Todd Tutterow IV in the final round of the Dodge NHRA Nationals presented by Pennzoil at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Las Vegas, Nevada. The final round was over shortly after it began.
The Evans, Georgia native went 5.788 at 247.84 mph for the win. The Lewisville, North Carolina went red.
That meant Jackson was given the win. Tutterow IV was -0.002 red so the foul meant that his run was thrown out.
“I never minced words,” Jackson said. “When I came to run NHRA in 2017, I said I was coming to win a championship. (Crew chief) Billy Stockiln is a magician running this car. He’s got this thing on a string. All my boys are killing it. I love racing here.
“Todd is my mentor. He taught me how to run a blown engine. Todd crushed me on a holeshot in the first race of the year at Gainesville. When I lit the top bulb in the final, Billy said, ‘Do not let this man wear your butt out. Bring your ‘A’ game.’ It worked out good for us and we’ve just got a bad hot rod.”
Before this final round appearance, Jackson had a 4-2 advantage over Tutterow in prior events. Before this round, each driver won against each other in final rounds.
This is Jackson’s ninth Pro Mod win, including his fourth during the 2019 season. He has won this event for the second time.
