The BC Lions of the Canadian Football League (CFL) has fired its head coach DeVone Claybrooks. The move comes four days after the regular season ended.
The team finished with a 5-13 record during its 2019 season. In addition, with the 5-13 record, the team was last-place in the CFL West Division.

“This has been a challenging season,” said General Manager Ed Hervey. “We did not meet the expectations we set for ourselves in 2019 and more importantly, we did not meet the expectations of our season ticket holders, fans and partners.”
The Lions had the third-worst record in the entire CFL. Only the Ottawa Redblacks (3-15) and the Toronto Argonauts (4-14) had worse records.
BC ended the season on a three-game losing streak. At one point during the season, the Lions went on a four-game win streak, which happened to be before the three-game losing streak to end the season.
The win streak happened from Friday, Sept. 13 through Saturday, October 5. During the win streak, the Lions defeated the Redblacks twice, Montreal Alouettes and the Argonauts once.
“We thank DeVone for his time and dedication while also wishing him the very best in the future,” added Hervey. “This decision was difficult, but we will continue to do everything possible to reach and exceed the standards we have committed to within our organization.”
