Major League Soccer has been an integral part of the American sports scene since it was established in 1993. Ten teams went head-to-head during the first season, but the league has come a long way since then. Now, 24 clubs from America and Canada now take part in the league. What’s more, it has attracted interest from dozens of superstars around the world.
Freetips.com suggests that Zlatan Ibrahimović and Wayne Rooney are the best players in America right now. However, Carlos Vela, Josef Martínez, and Nicolás Lodeiro have added to the drama over the last few seasons. Today, we’ll take a look at the top three players in the MLS.
The Swedish striker is one of the biggest names in the league right now. Ibrahimović has scored 52 goals since he signed for LA Galaxy in 2018. What’s more, the veteran is showing no signs of slowing down. Could he go on and become one of the club’s best signings? We certainly think so.
Zlatan has won a host of major honors, including the MLS Goal of the Year Award. The 38-year-old was also named club captain at the beginning of the 2019 season. Can he guide Galaxy to their first MLS title? Time will tell, but we wouldn’t rule it out.
The Galaxy is expected to meet with their star about his future soon.
The 30-year-old Mexican has played for several top-class European teams, including Arsenal and Real Sociedad. However, the most impressive period of his career. started when he signed for Los Angeles FC in 2018. Vela has scored an incredible 48 goals for the club already. We think there will be plenty more to come over the next few years.
Vela won the MLS Golden Boot in 2019. What’s more, his goals helped his club lift the Supporters’ Shield. Can they go one step further and win the title? Anything is possible when this man is leading the line.
Wayne Rooney’s time with DC United is coming to an end, but he made a huge impact when he signed from Everton in 2018. The former England international netted 23 goals in 48 appearances. On top of that, he helped United qualify for the MLS playoffs.
Rooney was the DC United Golden Boot Winner and MVP in 2018. He was also named in the MLS Best XI. The 34-year-old will be missed when he joins Derby County in December, but he has left a fantastic legacy at Audi Field.
