According to reports, Miami Heat guard Dion Waiters had a seizure on the team’s plane. Waiters reportedly had the episode during the team’s flight from Phoenix, Arizona to Los Angeles, California.
He reportedly had a seizure after eating “gummies.” He did not play in Friday night’s game against the Lakers.
At this time, it is not clear what the “gummies” mean. But, the way it is being described is a “gummies” that was infused with marijuana.
If that is the case, Waiters will likely be suspended, as it is against the NBA’s policies.
The reports said he was unconscious when the plane landed. Then, when he woke up, he had a seizure.
The team considered it as a “medical emergency.” No other details have emerged at this time.
This is the latest incident with Waiters. He was previously suspended by the team to begin the season for ‘conduct detrimental to the team.’
The 27-year-old Philadelphia, Pennsylvania native has not played for the Heat this season. He has been disgruntled about his role, especially the team’s belief that he is better off the bench than as a starter.
He played in 44 games, including 28 games, during the 2018-19 season. Waiters averaged 12 points, 2.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 0.7 steals, and 0.2 blocks in 25.9 minutes per game.
Waiters has been with the Heat since the 2016-17 season. During his tenure with the team, he has made 120 appearances, including a career-best 101 starts.
