One day after being released by the Cleveland Browns, Antonio Callaway has officially been hit with a 10-game suspension. Whoever he signs with, it’ll have to serve that suspension before playing for them.
The Browns found out that Callaway was facing a 10-game suspension on Thursday. He was released by the team just days after being benched in their win over the Buffalo Bills.
This is Callaway’s second suspension during the 2019 season. He began the season with a four-game suspension.
This suspension stems from two failed drug tests in August, according to Cleveland.com. One had 10 nano grams and the second had 40 nano grams.
Since the two failed drug tests, he has passed every one.
The second-year wide receiver will have to prove that he’s worthy of another opportunity. He’s lucky that he’s facing a 10-game suspension when others have been suspended for significant time.
“I stand by (Antonio Callaway) and know first hand all the improvements he’s made in his life,” Malki Kawa, his agent, tweeted on Thursday. “The fact that a tainted CBD supplement is responsible for a 10=game suspension is unfortunate and hopefully the @NFLPA will be able to fix this in the new CBA.”
Callaway appeared in four games, including two starts, during the 2019 season. He had eight receptions for 89 yards.
He last played for the Browns on Nov. 3 against the Denver Broncos. He had a season-high four receptions for 56 yards.
