Shawn Cowie was able to end the 2019 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series on a high note. He won the final race of the season.
Cowie defeated Chris Demke to win the Auto Club NHRA Finals at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona in Pomona, California.
The Langley, British Columbia, Canada native went 5.275 at 277.09 mph for the win. Demke’s pass was thrown out, as he went red.
He was -0.004 seconds off that gave Cowie the win.
Before this final round appearance, Demke held a 9-8 advantage over Cowie in previous events. However, Demke held a 1-0 advantage over Cowie in the lone previous final round appearance.
This is Cowie’s fifth National event win of the season. This is the second-time that he has won the Auto Club NHRA Finals in his career.
In addition, this is his 18th career win.
Cowie finished second in the Top Alcohol Dragster standings for the championship. He lost the title to Megan Meyer, who won the Championship at the NTK NHRA Carolina Nationals at zMAX Dragway in Concord, North Carolina in October.
Meyer won with 808 points, while Cowie finished the season with 743 points.
