CP Carrillo/Rick Jackson Motorsports Top Alcohol Funny Car pilot Shane Westerfield is going into the off-season on a high note. He won the Auto Club NHRA Finals on Sunday at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona in Pomona, California.
Westerfield defeated Mike Doushgounian in the final round. Westerfield went 5.493 at 268.97 mph to receive the Wally.
In the losing effort, Doushgounian went 5.627 at 262.23 mph.
Before this final round, Westerfield had a 2-0 advantage over Doushgounian in previous events. However, this was the first-time that they faced off in a final round for the Wally.
Doushgounian had the starting line advantage, as he was 0.008 off of the light. However, Westerfield — who had an 0.061 reaction time — was able to get the lead by the 330-mark and led throughout the rest of the race.
Westerfield won by 0.0813 seconds, or approximately 31 feet.
Westerfield finished third in the Top Alcohol Funny Car points standings with the win. He finished with 649 points behind Brian Hough and Champion Sean Bellemeur.
This was Westerfield’s third national event win in 2019. Besides the Auto Club NHRA Finals, he also won the Route 66 NHRA Nationals on June 2nd at Route 66 Raceway in Elwood, Illinois.
He also won the Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals on Aug. 18 at Brainerd International Raceway in Brainerd, Minnesota.
