The Kansas City Chiefs won the first Mexico game since the 2017 season. The 2018 game was moved to Los Angeles, California between the Chiefs and the Los Angeles Rams due to the field condition in Mexico.
The Chiefs defeated the Los Angeles Chargers 24-17 on Monday night at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, Mexico.
Kansas City leads the all-time series 62-56-1. Before this win, the Chiefs last won in the series on Sept. 9, 2018 when they won 38-28.
The Chargers won the last meeting in the series before Monday night with a 29-28 win.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes went 19 of 32 for 182 yards. He also had one touchdown pass and one interception.
Mahomes had five carries for 59 yards. Darrel Williams had 11 carries for 35 yards and a touchdown, while LeSean McCoy had seven carries for 29 yards and a touchdown.
Travis Kelce had seven receptions for 92 yards and a touchdown. McCoy had four receptions for 28 yards, while Sammy Watkins had two receptions for 26 yards.
Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers went 28 of 52 for 353 yards. He threw one touchdown pass and four interceptions.
Melvin Gordon had 14 carries for 69 yards.
Austin Ekeler had eight receptions for 108 yards, while Mike Williams had two receptions for 76 yards. Keenan Allen had eight receptions for 71 yards and a touchdown. Hunter Henry had six receptions for 69 yards.
Kansas City outscored Los Angeles 14-8 in the second half. Williams scored on a six-yard rushing touchdown. Mahomes also hit Kelce for a 23-yard touchdown reception.
Los Angeles got on the board in the second half with 1:44 left in the game with Rivers hit Allen for a seven-yard touchdown reception. Rivers also connected with Henry for a two-point conversion.
The Chiefs led 10-9 at halftime. McCoy scored on a six-yard rushing touchdown. Harrison Butker also made a 41-yard field goal.
Michael Badgley made three field goals. He made a 27-yard field goal in the first quarter.
Then, in the second quarter, he first made a 26-yard field goal. He then made a 49-yard field goal.
