Jairzinho Rozenstruik just needed one last punch to end the main event fight at UFC on ESPN 7 at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. With just four seconds left in the fight, Rozenstruik used a punch, similar to a superman punch, to get the victory.
He knocked out Alistair Overeem in the fifth-round. Rozenstruik won via a KO (Punches) for his tenth MMA win.
The 31-year-old Paramaribo, Suriname busted Overeem open with the punch. He ripped through his lip that caused a several inch cut in his lip area. It’s a gnarly cut if you see the pictures online.
With the win, Rozenstruik is now 10-0 in his career, including 4-0 in the UFC. All four of his UFC bouts have ended in knockout.
However, his fight with Overeem, was his longest fight in the UFC at five rounds. In fact, it’s the longest fight of his career.
Before the Overeem fight, he had back-to-back first-round knockouts against Andrei Arlovski and Allen Crowder. He defeated Junior Albini in his first UFC fight via TKO (Head Kick and Punches).
Following his bout, he called out Francis Ngannou.
“The Demolition Man” fell to 45-18-1 in his MMA career. The 39-year-old Amsterdam, Netherlands native suffered his 14th knockout loss of his career.
It was his first loss since he was defeated by Curtis Blaydes in June 2018 at UFC 225. After the loss to Blaydes by TKO (Elbows), Overeem defeated Sergei Pavlovich and Alexey Oleynik before the loss to Rozenstruik.
