Boston College hires Jeff Hafley as head football coach

Boston College Eagles have hired their new head football coach. Jeff Hafley has been named the program’s new leader.

The 40-year-old has received his first head coaching opportunity. He replaces Steve Addazio, who was fired at the end of the 2019 season.

Hafley spent the 2019 season as the Ohio State Buckeyes Co-Defensive Coordinator and Secondary Coach. After Ryan Day became the Buckeyes head coach, Hafley was one of his first hires in January 2019.

The two previously worked together with the San Francisco 49ers during the 2016 season.

Hafley has worked with some prominent coaches during his NFL career. He worked with Kyle Shanahan with the 49ers during the 2017 and 2018 season.

He spent three total seasons with the 49ers. He worked the 2016 season under Chip Kelly. He was the 49ers secondary coach under both head coaches.

Before joining the 49ers, he spent two seasons with the Cleveland Browns. He worked under Mike Pettine as the team’s secondary coach.

He also worked two seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers under Greg Schiano. He was initially hired as the team’s assistant secondary coach.

Then, in 2013, he was named the team’s secondary coach.

Before joining Schiano with the Buccaneers, he worked with Schiano at the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. He was the team’s secondary coach.

He also served as an assistant coach with the Pittsburgh Panthers, Albany Great Danes, and Worcester Polytechnic (WPI) Engineers.
