Kitchens said on Sunday that he would keep doing his job until ownership told him other wise. A few hours later, he was fired.

The Browns lost to the woeful Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday in his final game with the team. The Bengals won 33-23 over the Browns.

This was Cincinnati’s second win of the season. The Bengals finish the season with a 2-14 record — and will have the top pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Kitchens received the job after last season as the interim offensive coordinator when Gregg Williams took over as interim head coach. Hue Jackson was the coach to begin 2018 before he was let go.

The ownership and front office said Kitchens got the job because of his relationship with Baker Mayfield. Mayfield; however, this season regressed in his first full season under Kitchens.

Also, with the roster moves that the Browns made in the off-season, the team had unrealistic expectations on them. A lot of people were picking them to win the Super Bowl.

Their last winning record was in 2007 with a 10-6 mark. However, their last playoff appearance was in 2002.

There were also some chemistry problems with the team. When teams have chemistry problems, their seasons hardly ever finish with a winning record.
