The Dallas Cowboys have fired head coach Jason Garrett. The team parted ways with the head coach days before his contract expired.
In the past several days, the Cowboys have informed Garrett that they were moving on without him. Yet, he continued to try to keep his job for the 2020 season.
This forced Jerry Jones and Stephen Jones to do something they did not want to do. The Cowboys would have rather had his contract expire on January 14th than fire the coach.

But when he kept begging for his job back, Dallas had no choice.
“We are extremely grateful to Jason Garrett for his more than 20 years of service to the Dallas Cowboys, as a player, assistant coach, and head coach,” Cowboys Owner and General Manager Jerry Jones said. “His level of commitment, character, and dedication to this organization has been outstanding at every stage of his career. In his nine full years as a head coach, he guided our team to three Division Championships, while also having them in a position to play for the NFC East title in the last game of the year in four other seasons. His tenure of leadership will be characterized by his ability to produce teams that always played with great effort, emotion, and passion, and he represented our organization with great pride, loyalty, and respect.
“Jason Garrett’s legacy with the Dallas Cowboys will always be that of someone, who strived for greatness every day that he walked through the door, and as someone, who instilled the virtues of enthusiasm, hard work, and appreciation for the profession in all of the men, who played with him and for him. He is, and always will remain, a cherished member of the Dallas Cowboys family, and his contributions to the organization are greatly appreciated.”

The 53-year-old Abington, Pennsylvania native went 85-67 as the Cowboys head coach. He had just three 10-plus winning seasons during his tenure.
Garrett guided the Cowboys to four winning seasons during his tenure – 2014 (12-4), 2016 (13-3), 2017 (9-7), and 2018 (10-6). During his tenure, he also guided the team to four 8-8 seasons.
The former Cowboys quarterback saw his teams lose in the NFC Divisional Game each time they made the playoffs. In 2014, they were defeated by the Green Bay Packers.
Two years later, the Packers also defeated the Cowboys in the NFC Divisional Game. Then, in 2018, the Cowboys were defeated by the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Divisional Game.
