In our Season in Review, we’ll look at the 2019 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series. Top Fuel Dragster pilot Richie Crampton will be featured in this post.

Crampton won two races during the 2019 season. However, it was his last season with Kalitta Motorsports, as the team plans to go with two Top Fuel Dragsters (Doug Kalitta and Shawn Langdon) with one Funny Car (J.R. Todd) for the 2020 season.

At this time, Crampton is currently unemployed. Despite not having a full-time racing ride so far in 2020, Crampton still works for Morgan Lucas Racing, as they build chassis for race teams.

Crampton won the 50th annual Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals back in March at Gainesville Raceway in Gainesville, Florida. The Australian native — who now calls the Indianapolis, Indiana area home — defeated Clay Millican in the final round, as he went 3.769 to Millican’s 3.756.

Then, he defeated his teammate Kalitta in the final round of the Mopar Express Lane NHRA Nationals presented by Pennzoil at Maple Grove Raceway in Mohnton, Pennsylvania. He went 3.738 compared to Kalitta’s 3.779.

He also went to another final round. However, in this final round, he was defeated by Kalitta in the Auto Club NHRA Finals at Auto Club Raceway in Pomona, California.

During this race, Crampton announced that he was departing Kalitta Motorsports.

Crampton also went to one semifinal. which came at the DENSO Spark Plugs NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. His round win-loss record on the season was 18-22, including 15 first-round eliminations.
