Browns hire Kevin Stefanski as head coach

The Cleveland Browns are expected to hire Kevin Stefanski as the team’s new head coach. He will come to Cleveland after serving as the Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator.
This will be Stefanski’s first head coaching opportunity in the NFL. He was a finalist for the position last year.
Several executives wanted Stefanski. However, ownership elected to go with then-GM John Dorsey’s recommendation to hire Freddie Kitchens.
At the end of the 2019 season, the Browns fired both Kitchens and “mutually” parted ways with Dorsey.
Stefanski is the son of Detroit Pistons executive Ed Stefanski.
He will take over a team that went 6-10 in 2019. Stefanski will now be in charge of developing Baker Mayfield and putting him on the right track.
Mayfield — the top pick in the 2018 NFL Draft — had his play diminish under Kitchens this past season. There was a clip that’s circulating online of an incident where Mayfield calls him a name on the sidelines.
If Stefanski and Mayfield can gel, along with the talent on the roster, they can do damage. The team had Super Bowl expectations to begin the season after Dorsey’s additions in the off-season, but then play on the field did not show it.
