Rower dies after Holy Cross wreck in Florida

The Holy Cross community is dealing with a devastating tragedy. While in Florida, members of their women’s rowing team was involved in an accident.

At least one member of the team has died. The authorities have identified her as 20-year-old Grace Rett.

A van that the team was traveling in was hit by a pickup, according to the authorities.

Vero Beach Police Chief David Currey said some members of the team were released. However, some are still in the hospital and listed in serious but stable condition.

Several team members had to be airlifted from the scene to the hospital. Rett was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident happened 7:30 am this morning. Holy Cross was in town for a winter training camp.

“This morning, members of the Holy Cross women’s rowing team were involved in a serious crash while traveling in Florida,” the school said in a statement. “The College is in contact with authorities in Florida and is in the process of gathering more information. Holy Cross has been in touch with the families of those students and coaches and is offering support for all those involved.

“We ask that you keep all those involved and their families in your prayers at this time.”

Holy Cross has cancelled their home men’s basketball game this evening as a result of the accident.
