The Portland Trail Blazers have traded Kent Bazemore to the Sacramento Kings. In addition, Anthony Tolliver and two second-round draft picks also moved to Sacrament.
In exchange, the Trail Blazers acquired veteran Trevor Ariza, Wendell Gabriel, and Caleb Swanigan.
Plus, Portland saves $12.5 million by making this deal. While they created room, the Trail Blazers have also creased a $7.2 million and a $1.7 million trade exception — both will expire in January 2021 — by making this deal.
The 30-year-old Bazemore has played poorly this season. But it’s also surprising that Portland would deal him, as his $19.2 million salary comes off the books this summer.
With Portland, Bazemore appeared in 43 games, including 21 starts. He is averaging 7.9 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.0 steals, and 0.7 blocks in 25.8 minutes per game.
On Friday night, he had 11 points in 30 minutes in a loss against the Dallas Mavericks. Since Dec. 21st, he has had just three games, where he has scored double-digits in a total of 13 games.
He has had just one game, where he scored more than 15 points. He had a season-high 19 points in a win against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Dec. 21st.
The 34-year-old Ariza was in his first season with the Kings. He had 32 appearances, including zero starts on the season. He is averaging 6.0 points, 4.6 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.1 steals, and 0.2 blocks in 24.7 minutes per game.
Portland will now be on the books for the rest of Ariza’s contract. He is making $12.2 million this season.
Next season, though, he has a $12.8 million salary. However, Portland would have to make a decision on him, as his contract is only guaranteed at $1.8 million.
Portland will have to decide to either pick up or decline his option on June 30th.
Ariza scored 3 points in his last game with the Kings in a loss to the Dallas Mavericks on Jan. 15. He has had eight games, where he scored between 10-19 points.
He has also scored between 0-9 points 24 times. Ariza’s best game of the season was an 18-point performance in a win over the Golden State Warriors on Jan. 6.
Gabriel has not played in an NBA game yet. He is a member of the Stockton Kings. Swanigan returns to the Trail Blazers, who drafted him with the 26th overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft.
He is averaging 0.7 points, 1.0 rebounds, 0.3 assists, 0.1 steals, and 0.3 blocks in seven games. He is averaging 3.3 minutes per game.
Swanigan was traded from Portland to Sacrament on February 7, 2019. Skai Labissière went to Portland.
He scored a season-high two-points against the Warriors on Jan. 6.
Tolliver – a journeyman forward – has made 33 appearances, including nine starts this season. He is averaging 3.9 points, 3.3 rebounds, 0.9 assists, 0.2 steals, and 0.3 blocks in 16.8 minutes per contest.
