Larry Walker did not think he would get into the National Baseball Hall of Fame. But his name and likeness will have a special place in Cooperstown, New York.
On Tuesday, Walker was named to the Hall of Fame. He was one of two players named to the Class of 2020 Hall of Fame, including Derek Jeter.
“Although, I believe I’m going to come up a little short today, I still wanna thank all you that have been pulling for me and showing your support,” Walker said on Twitter at 1:41 pm. “I’m grateful for all of you! It’s been fun leading up to today reading everyone’s thoughts. Cheers LW.”

Yet, several hours later, he got the call to the Hall. The first baseman and right fielder had to overcome the Coors Field stigma to earn this opportunity.
Being that Coors Field is above sea level, his numbers were inflated at home. Yet, regardless, he is now the first member of the Rockies organization in the Baseball Hall of Fame.
He received six more votes than needed to get into the Hall. In total, he received 304 of a possible 397 votes.
Walker played for the Rockies, Montreal Expos, and the St. Louis Cardinals in his career. He spent the first six seasons of his career in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, before signing with the Rockies, where he would play the next 10 seasons.

In 2004, he was then traded to the Cardinals. He played a year and a half with the Cardinals before retiring.
In his career, Walker had a .313 batting average with 383 home runs and 1,311 RBIs in 1,988 games. He also had 471 doubles and 62 triples on 2,160 hits, while scoring 1,355 runs in 6,907 at-bats.
