Former minor leaguer Juan Thomas Jr. is in trouble with the law. He was charged with sexually assaulting a child and possession of child pornography.
Thomas Jr. — who was previously a member of the Chicago White Sox organization — was arrested and charged on Wednesday in Lincoln County, South Dakota. He is facing one count of raping a child younger than 13, according to the Associated Press.
The 48-year-old is also charged with 10 counts of child porn possession. He has pled not guilty to the charges against him.
Thomas Wollman, Lincoln County State’s Attorney, said “it’s unclear how Thomas is connected to the child.”
“We are looking for individuals who know Mr. Thomas and may be able to assist in identifying potential witnesses or victims,” Wollman said.
Thomas was drafted by the White Sox in the 1991 MLB Draft. He did not make it further than Triple-A with the Seattle Mariners’ Tacoma Rainiers in 2001 and 2002.
In his minor league career, he had 303 home runs in 14 seasons.
After his playing career, he also served as a youth coach in Sioux Falls.
