Houston Cougars men’s basketball player DeJon Jarreau has been suspended. He took a bite of Cincinnati Bearcats player Mamoudou Diarra’s leg on Saturday.
During a scramble for the ball, Jarreau bit Diarra. He was ejected for his actions.
At first, Cougars head coach Kelvin Sampson denied it. He said that his comments were regarding a separate alleged bite of Keith Williams.
But after reviewing additional video of the incident, he clear saw the bite by Jarreau.
“I reached out to Cincinnati Head Coach John Brannen this morning and apologized on behalf of our Basketball team,” Sampson said. “Our program is built on discipline, and behavior like that will not be tolerated. With that in mind, I have chosen to suspend DeJon for Thursday’s game against Tulane. I am confident DeJon will learn from this incident and the consequences of his actions.”
Jarreau is in his second season with the Cougars. He was named The American’s Sixth Man of the Year.
He is averaging 9.5 points this season. Jarreau is also 4.2 rebounds and 3.9 assists in 24 minutes per game.
