The Minnesota Timberwolves and the Golden State Warriors have made a blockbuster deal. Andrew Wiggins has been traded to the Warriors.

The total package sees Wiggins, a 2021 first-round draft pick, and a 2021 second-round draft pick go to the Bay Area. In exchange, the Timberwolves received Jacob Evans, D’Angelo Russell, Omari Spellman, and a 2021 first-round draft pick. This draft pick is Top 3 protected.

The Warriors received Russell in a blockbuster deal that sent Kevin Durant to the Brooklyn Nets. The teams executed a sign-and-trade deal with Durant so that he could get more money in his contract.

In the past several months, Russell has not been happy. He reportedly did not fit into head coach Steve Kerr’s system. In addition, he allegedly was not happy with the losing that the team was experiencing.

Timberwolves Vice President of Basketball Operations Gersson Rosas has been infatuated with Russell since he took over the job.

Russell had just returned to the lineup before this trade. He did not play against the Washington Wizards on February 3rd.

This season, Russell has played in 33 games. He made 33 starts with the Warriors.

He is averaging 23.6 points per game. Russell was also averaging 3.7 rebounds, 6.2 assists, 0.9 steals, and 0.3 blocks per contest.

Wiggins, on the other hand, has appeared in 42 games. He made 42 starts with the Timberwolves.

He is scoring 22.4 points per game. Wiggins is also averaging 5.2 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 0.7 steals, and 0.9 blocks per game.

Evans and Spellman were just throw-ins of the deal. They are reserves and may not stay with their new team.

Evans — who was in part of his second season with the Warriors before this deal — had appeared in 27 games. He made one start on the season.

He averaged 4.7 points per game. Evans also averaged 1.5 rebounds, 1.1 assists, 0.4 steals, and 0.4 blocks per game.

Spellman — who was in his first season with the team — appeared in 49 games before the trade. He also made three starts.

He had been averaging 7.6 points per game. He also averaged 4.5 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 0.7 steals, and 0.5 blocks per contest.
