The Minnesota Wild have fired head coach Bruce Boudreau. He has been replaced on an interim basis by Dean Evason.
Boudreau was the Wild’s head coach for three-plus seasons. He went 158-110-35 during his tenure with the team.
“I would like to thank Bruce for his hard work and commitment to the Minnesota Wild during his tenure with the organization and wish him and his family the best in the future,” General Manager Bill Guerin said.
This move was made following the Wild’s 4-3 loss to the New York Rangers in a shootout at Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Evason’s first game as interim head coach will come at home on Saturday at 6 pm local time against the San Jose Sharks.
The Wild have the second-to-last record in the Central Division. Through 57 games, the team has gone 27-23-7 for 61 points. Despite having the second-to-last record in the Division, they are tied with the Nashville Predators, who also have 61 points, but have a 27-22-7 record through 56 games.
Minnesota is now the eighth team, who has fired their head coach this season. It’s the first firing in nearly a month, as the Vegas Golden Knights fired Gerard Gallant on Jan. 15, 2020.
Evason has no prior head coaching experience in the NHL. However, he has served as an assistant coach with the Washington Capitals and the Wild.
He has also coached as the Kamloops Blazers head coach from 1999 through 2002. In addition, he was the Vancouver Giants head coach from 2002 through 2004 in the Western Hockey League. In 2004-05, he also was the co-coach for the Calgary Hitmen.
In 2012, he was the Milwaukee Admirals head coach, where he was their head coach for six seasons. He’s also the second winningest head coach in team history.
