Raiders, Mariota agree in principle to deal

The Las Vegas Raiders have agreed to terms with free agent quarterback Marcus Mariota. The proposed agreement will become official on Wednesday, Marcy 18th at 4 pm EST.

Financial terms of Mariota’s deal were not disclosed. With this deal, the former second overall pick in the 2015 pick will now have to compete for the starting job.

He will have to do battle with Derek Carr, who ended the Raiders season as the starter, In fact, he has been their starter for the past six seasons.

Mariota likely received a one-year prove-it deal with the Raiders. It is the same type of deal that Ryan Tannehill took with the Tennessee Titans last season after being traded to the team from the Miami Dolphins.

The Hawai’ian lost his job to Tannehill during the season. He became expendable when Tannehill agreed to a four-year deal in principle with the Titans that will become official on Wednesday when the new league year starts.

The 26-year-old — who will be 27 on October 30th — spent the first five seasons of his career with the Titans.

With the Titans, Mariota appeared in 63 games, including 61 starts. He has a career record of 29-32.

He has three winning records in his career — and he has had one season, in which he won nine or more games, which was the 2017 season when the team went 9-6. From 2016-2018, he was 24-19 in 43 starts.

During these three seasons, he went 785 of 1,235 for 9,186 yards. He also threw 50 touchdowns and 32 interceptions.

In his final season with the Titans, he appeared in seven games, including six starts. He went 2-4 in those six starts.

During his final campaign in Nashville, Tennessee, he went 95 of 160 for 1,203 yards. He also had seven touchdowns and two touchdowns.
