Chip Ganassi Racing has fired young NASCAR Cup Series driver Kyle Larson on Tuesday. This comes two days after he said the n-word in a stream on Easter Sunday.

The race team was forced into a corner, as they lost potential sponsors from Larson’s actions.

“After much consideration, Chip Ganassi Racing has determined that it will end its relationship with driver Kyle Larson,” the team said in a statement. “As we said before, the comments that Kyle made were both offensive and unacceptable, especially given the values of our organization. As we continued to evaluate the situation with all the relevant parties, it became obvious that this was the only appropriate course of action to take.”

Larson apologized for his comment on Monday. But the damage has already been done for his career — at least for the time being.

Several sponsors pulled their sponsorship of Larson due to his sensitive language. Chevrolet said that they were suspending their relationship with him.

This meant that it was going to be tough for the Cup Series team to continue with him as the driver. With a loss of a lot of sponsorship money, it was going to be tough for that team to operate with him as a driver.

The world is dealing with a coronavirus, COVID-19, pandemic. As a result, NASCAR racing is on hold for the foreseeable future.

It is going to be a while before Larson will be able to recover from this incident. He may also have a sponsorship loss with his World of Outlaws Sprint Car racing team, as well.

Larson was taking part in a Monza Madness event that was hosted by fellow NASCAR Cup Series driver Landon Cassill. This iRacing event was also hosted on a stream on eNASCAR.com.

In addition, there were more than 60 drivers in the event. Plus, many of these drivers had their own POV (point of view) streams.

During a video chat, it caught Larson allegedly saying the N-word. He apparently didn’t know he had a live-mic when he used the disrespectful word.

He said, ‘You can’t hear me? Hey n——.’ Rising NASCAR driver Anthony Alfredo responded, ‘Kyle, you’re talking to everyone, bud.’

Aron MacEachern also responded, ‘Yup, we heard that.’ Justin Botelho, who was hosting the stream when Larson’s negative word could be heard, said, ‘Oh damn, he did not just say that.’

As we wrote last night, the most logical choice would be for Ross Chastain to replace him. He already has a working relationship with Chip Ganassi Racing.
