The Cincinnati Bengals have drafted Joe Burrow with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. The Bengals hope that Burrow can turn into a franchise signal caller.
Burrow has been drafted by his home state team. He was born in Ames, Iowa; however, has called The Plains, Ohio for much of his life.
He is the third straight Heisman Trophy winner to go No. 1 overall in recent memory. He joins an exclusive company as the ninth quarterback, who has won the Heisman Trophy, to be drafted No. 1 overall since 1967.
This is the first time three Heisman Trophy winners have gone No. 1 overall in NFL history.
Burrow joins a Bengals team that went 2-14 last season. He will join a team that may or may not have Andy Dalton on the roster by the beginning of the season.
“I think its leadership,” Burrow said about changing the team’s culture. “I’ve always been really, really good at bringing everybody together to form a common goal. And I think my work ethic kind of permeates throughout the team. I’m excited to get around all the guys and everybody within that building.”
Dalton went 2-11 in 13 starts last season. Ryan Finley, a Bengals 2019 draft selection, went 0-3 as a starter.
The former TCU Horned Frog went 314 of 528 for 3,494 yards. Dalton also had 16 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.
There was some speculation that he may be traded. However, as of this moment, he is still with the Bengals.
Finley went 41 of 87 for 474 yards. He also had two touchdown passes and two interceptions.
Burrow had one great year with the LSU Tigers in 2019. He swept many quarterback awards after going 402 of 527 for 5,671 yards. He also threw 60 touchdown passes and had six interceptions.
