The Philadelphia Eagles used a second-round draft pick on quarterback Jalen Hurts on Friday night. So many fans are furious with the selection.

Yet, head coach Doug Pederson and Executive Vice President/General Manager Howie Roseman were happy with the selection. For the past three years, Carson Wentz has been lost to season-ending injuries.

Wentz suffered a concussion in the playoff loss against the Seattle Seahawks. In the previous two seasons, he had a back fracture in 2018 and a torn ACL in 2017.

Hurts will replace him if Pederson calls on him over Nate Sudfeld to be the signal-caller. Also, with Hurts, he can play a Taysom Hill role.

He is already familiar with gimmick plays. In fact, Eagles fans know it as “Philly Philly,” a play that Pederson called that asked for Trey Burton to throw a touchdown pass to Nick Foles.

This is a play that helped the Eagles win their first Super Bowl Championship over the New England Patriots. In the video below, you can see the Oklahoma Sooners pulling off the play last November.

Head coach Lincoln Riley called for Nick Basquine to get the ball during a play — possibly named “Sooners Special” — in the second quarter against the Oklahoma State Cowboys. Basquine then threw a perfect pass to a wide-open Hurts.
