Chris Winter, a partner with King of Prussia, Pa.-headquartered Motorsports Developers of King Prussia, has confirmed to The Capital Sports Report that the group’s proposed deal to purchase Maple Grove Raceway has been off the table since February.

He said he cannot comment further on the situation because of a non-disclosure agreement.

At this time, the racetrack remains for sale. The original asking price for the NHRA-affiliated drag strip and additional buildings and amenities was $8 million.

However, a private source, who has requested anonymity, has indicated that Motorsports Developers of King Prussia, which also includes Joseph Casella and Jordan Levitt, remain interested in purchasing the facility near Reading, Pa.

This group reportedly hopes to strike a deal with the current owners later this year.

Motorsports Developers of King Prussia had planned to make additions to the facility around the drag strip to allow multiple events for extra income.

Maple Grove Raceway first opened in 1962 as a 1/5th-mile dragstrip. Two years later, it was converted to its current quarter-mile length.

The NHRA has been hosting an event at this facility since 1985. Its 2020 edition has been moved to a two-day event and moved up a week in a revised schedule due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Mopar Express Lane NHRA Nationals Presented by Pennzoil will feature pro racing on September 12-13th with the Funny Cars, Top Fuel, Pro Stock, and Pro Stock Motorcycle. The Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series (LODRS), featuring Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car and other sportsman action, will compete at the National event beginning on Friday, Sept. 11th.

The Maple Grove (LODRS) Divisional race, which was scheduled for Memorial Day weekend, has been postponed. No announcement has been made on when this event will take place, as the facility has been closed because of the stay-at-home orders in Pennsylvania.

In 2022, the track will celebrate its 60th-year anniversary.

The story ends with the statement, The Maple Grove (LODRS) divisional race, which was scheduled for Memorial Day weekend, has been postponed. No announcement has been made on when this event will take place, as the facility has been closed because of the stay-at-home orders in Pennsylvania. The previous paragraph you state: The Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series (LODRS), featuring Top Alcohol Dragster and Top Alcohol Funny Car, will compete at the event beginning on Friday, Sept. 11th. The Lucas series LODRS are run at various tracks across the seven NHRA divisions. A LODRS is part of the Lucas World Championship, points earned at the LODRS goes toward a divisional and a national title, but the sportsman racing at the NHRA events are not racing at a LODRS. Only divisional are considered LODRS events. Did you mean to state that on Friday of the event, the NHRA sportsman will compete?

TWO separate events. Each year, the LODRS has a Divisional at Maple Grove Raceway during Memorial Day weekend.

Then in September or around September— whenever they’ve had a national event — they would welcome back the LODRS to fill in the time during the national event when the pros were working on their cars.
