Former MiLB Miguel Marte has passed away

According to the NBC Sports, Miguel Marte, a former minor league baseball player, has passed away. He was 30. 

Marte passed away due to complications from the coronavirus. The Oakland Athletics announced his death on Friday.

“The A’s are mourning the loss of former Athletic minor leaguer Miguel Marte, who passed away earlier this week due to the complications from COVID-19,” their statement said. “Marte played in the A’s system from 2008-2012. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends.” 

He played in the Dominican Summer League, the Arizona League, and the New York Penn League. He has not reached higher than A- ball. 

In his final season in the A’s system with the Vermont Lake Monsters, he appeared in 43 games. He had a .230 batting average with three home runs and 20 RBI’s in 148 at-bats. 

He is survived by his wife Jasmin and his twins Isabella and Miguel Angel.

According to a GoFundMe page, “In the current situation, he was the provider in his home and apart from a great void, the stress of providing for his family was on Jasmin’s shoulders. If you want to help the family of Miguel Marte, this fund has been created for the wife and children.

“Miguel was the main provider for his family. Not only does Jasmin have to live with such a huge void, but now the financial burden and stress of providing for her family falls on her shoulders.”

At the time of this post, the GoFundMe has surpassed its initial goal of $5,000. Presently, $6,873 has been raised with 91 donors as of 2:45 am on May 2nd.
