Wojnarowski: KD not returning despite coronavirus hiatus

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski is one of the most respected NBA insiders in the business. He has to know something to report it.

Wojnarowski reported one his latest podcast, The Woj Podcast, that Kevin Durant will not play this season. At all.

Durant tore his Achilles tendon in Game 5 of the 2019 NBA Finals against the Toronto Raptors. Nets general manager Sean Marks recently said that there was a chance he may return.

From October through March, Durant was on the sidelines. Then, the global coronavirus pandemic opened up a glimpse that may allow Durant to play — if the season even resumes.

The NBA has been shut down since March 12th.

“Kevin Durant’s not coming back to the Nets this year,” Wojnarowski said during his podcast. “That’s not happening … they’re not playing him.”

Before the coronavirus pandemic, Durant and his representatives said that Durant would not play this season. Yet, he has been practicing during this two month break due to the infectious virus.

This caused Marks to say maybe there is a chance.

Durant signed a free agent contract with the Brooklyn Nets last off-season. They’re hoping that he will be able to play a Top 5 player when he returns to action for the 2020-21 season.

The Nets are not going anywhere this season. While they may likely make the playoffs in the weak Eastern Conference, they will likely get eliminated early, possibly in the first-round.

Brooklyn would have to play the rest of the season— if it does resume at some point — without Kyrie Irving, as well. Irving went down with a shoulder injury and had to have season-ending surgery.

Presently, with the league on hold, the Nets have the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference. If the playoffs began today — or if the league resumes — they would have to face the Raptors with no more regular season games played.
