Moduline Top Alcohol Funny Car Matt Gill was attempting to win at his home track. Then, he ran into a buzz saw in Sean Bellemeur at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Northeast Divisional on Saturday night at New England Dragway in Epping, New Hampshire.

Bellemeur — who traveled all the away across the country to compete in this event — defeated Gill, as he went 5.530 at 268.65 mph to claim the Divisional Wally. Gill — who is from Massachusetts — went 5.567 at 266.27 mph in the losing effort.

The two-time defending Top Alcohol Funny Car pilot had a perfect 0.00 reaction time and never trailed in the race. Gill was a 0.058 in the reaction time and had to attempt to make up the difference, as the two cars went down the track.

Bellemeur won by 0.0950 seconds, or approx. 37 feet. With the win in New Hampshire — which was the first Northeast Divisional since the global coronavirus pandemic caused changes to the original schedule — the California native now has 14 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series wins.

This was his second Divisional win this year. He also won the Lone Star Nationals during Memorial Day weekend at the Texas Motorplex in Ennis, Texas, as he defeated Annie Whiteley.
