Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott signed his franchise tender on Monday. He is guaranteed to make $31.4 million for the upcoming 2020 season.

Prescott will now be paid like one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the league. It’ll also give the Cowboys more time to potentially strike a long-term agreement.

The Cowboys attempted to sign Prescott to an extension before the signal caller agreed to the franchise tender. During the off-season, there was an unconfirmed report that Prescott was seeking a $40 million per season deal.

Whether Prescott and the Cowboys can reach a long-term deal, we don’t know. But one thing we do know is, if he wants a long-term deal, this will be a huge upcoming season for him.

It’s going to be a prove-it season for him. If the Cowboys do not believe he’s worth a long-term deal, then potentially, another team could sign him to a deal.

If he wants his long-term deal, he’ll have to perform better than last year. During playoff teams, he was just 1-6 with 307.7 passing yards per game. He also had 8 touchdown passes and 8 interceptions.

Against teams without a playoff record, he was 7-2. He also averaged 305.3 passing yards per game with 22 touchdown passes and three interceptions.

This season, he’ll be working with new head coach Mike McCarthy. This will be his second head coach in his career, as his former head coach Jason Garrett was fired in the off-season.

The 26-year-old has appeared in 64 games, including 64 starts in his four-year career. He is 40-24 as a starter.

Prescott has gone 1,363 of 2,071 for 15,778 yards. He has thrown 97 touchdown passes and had 36 interceptions.
