A WNBA co-owner is not pleased with the league putting “Black Lives Matter” on the court as the league starts its upcoming season in Florida. Not everyone supports Black Lives Matter.
Many people, who do not support Black Lives Matter, call it a leftist lie to brainwash people to have them vote for the Democrats. Black Lives Matter only protests when it involves a police officer, yet all the other black on black crimes are avoided by the group.
Their mission statement is very questionable in 2020. Here is their mission statement: “[Black Lives Matter]’s mission is to eradicate white supremacy and build local power to intervene in violence inflicted on Black communities by the state and vigilantes. By combating and countering acts of violence, creating space for Black imagination and innovation, and centering Black joy, we are winning immediate improvements in our lives.”
Senator Kelly Loeffler, a Republican and a co-owner of the Atlanta Dream, does not support Black Lives Matter. She also supports President Donald Trump.
Loeffler sent a letter to WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert to disagree with the move. The Senator also asked Engelbert to put an American flag on each jersey.
Black Lives Matter will be on the courts at the IMG Academy that the WNBA will use in Bradenton, Florida. The league will also have several women’s name on the back of their jerseys, who were allegedly involved in police brutality or racial violence.
“I adamantly oppose the Black Lives Matter political movement, which has advocated for the defunding of police, called for the removal of Jesus from churches and the disruption of the nuclear family structure, harbored anti-Semitic views, and promoted violence and destruction across the country,” Loeffler said. “I believe it is totally misaligned with the values and goals of the WNBA and the Atlanta Dream, where we support tolerance and inclusion.”
She also is not pleased that the league has been aligned with a political organization. The league will divide its audience by doing this.
“The truth is, we need less — not more politics in sports,” Loeffler also said. “IN a time when polarizing politics is as divisive as ever, sports has the power to be a unifying antidote. And now more than ever, we should be united in our goal to remove politics from sports.
“Though I was not consulted about — nor do I agree with the League’s decision in this matter, I am proposing a common-sense recommendation to ensure we reflect the values of freedom and equality for all. I believe we should put an American flag on every jersey. Include it in our licensed apparel for players, coaches and fans.”
Because she has spoken up — against the Democrats who support Black Lives Matter — players want her out. What happened to free speech? Unfortunately, these people want to silence others, who do not agree with them. Both people should have the right to freedom of speech, not just one side.
“The WNBA is based on the principle of equal and fair treatment of all people and we, along with the teams and players, will continue to use our platforms to vigorously advocate for social justice,” the league said in a statement. “Sen. Kelly Loeffler has not served as a Governor of the Atlanta Dream since October 2019 and is no longer involved in the day-to-day business of the team.”
