The Philadelphia Eagles could have released wide receiver DeSean Jackson. However, it does not appear that the team will release him for his social media posts.
Jackson posted a message that was attributed to Adolf Hitler, a Nazi leader from nearly 100 years ago, that criticized the Jewish community. In additional posts, he showed admiration for Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan.
“I want to apologize to the Jewish community, Jeffrey Lurie, Howie Roseman, Doug Pederson, the Eagles organization, and our fans for the insensitive and ill-informed posts that I shared on my social media,” Jackson said in a statement on Tuesday night. “My intention was to uplift, unite, and encourage our culture with positivity and light. Unfortunately, that did not happen. I unintentionally hurt the Jewish community in the process and for that, I am sorry! Now, more than ever, we must work together to end discrimination of all types and against all people and communities. This apology is more than just words — it is a promise to do better.

“I will fully educate myself and work with local and national organizations to be more informed and make a difference in our community. I will consider my words and actions moving forward. This is the second high-profile Eagles receiver, who has made racist comments. However, neither one lost their jobs.
In July 2013, a video came to light that showed Riley Cooper attempting to go backstage at a Kenny Chesney concert, before being turned away.
Cooper than made a racial comment to one of the security members, who rejected him from going backstage of the country music star’s event.
Cooper was caught on video saying, “I will jump that fence and fight every n***er here.”

He was ultimately fined by the team. The Eagles may do the same thing with Jackson, as he will likely be on the roster for the upcoming 2020 season.
Jackson and Cooper were teammates during the 2013 season after the incident.
