Kamaru Usman had a very challenging week. He had to prepare for two opponents on six days.

Despite the change, Usman was able to defeat Jorge Masvidal in the main event of UFC 251 in Abu Dhabi. Masvidal retained his Welterweight Championship with the win.

Two judges gave Usman a 50-45 win. However, the third judge gave Usman a 49-46 win.

Masvidal took the opportunity when Gilbert Burns tested positive for the coronavirus. The Florida native had to cut 20 pounds to make weight for this fight.

“Gamebred” and Usman had a run-in earlier this year. The two fighters buried the hatchet at the end of the fight, as they said that they would like to run it back at some point down the road.

“The Nigerian Nightmare” improved to 18-1 in his MMA Career. He has won 17 straight bouts, including 13 straight bouts in the UFC.

Usman now has 10 decision wins. It’s his first decision win since he defeated Tyron Woodley at UFC 235 by unanimous decision on March 2nd, 2019.

Usman said that Leon Edwards is out there. But he would like to go on a vacation with his daughter before he fights again.

Five of his last six fights have come down to unanimous decisions.

Masvidal fell to 35-14 with the loss. His three-fight win streak was snapped with this loss.

This was his first loss since November 4, 2017 when he lost to Stephen Thompson. That defeat was also by unanimous decision.
